Top Tips to Care for Your Dog

Dogs show unwavering commitment, loyalty and love to their masters. This is unlike any other pet on this planet. It’s no wonder that they are called “man’s best friend”. Dog owners can reciprocate their canine friend’s love by providing care and comfort.

Dog owners should know how to care for their pet to keep them healthy. If you have become a dog owner recently, you may not know how to properly care for your beloved canine. In this post, we’ll provide essential tips to help you care for your dog.

1. Fulfill Their Nutritional Needs

A few dog owners don’t recognize how important appropriate nutrition is for their dog. They think that dogs can be fed the food that they eat themselves. They believe that if it is safe for them, it must be safe for their dog too. This is not true. Inappropriate nutrition can lead to canine obesity and other health problems. A dog’s diet should have a good balance of healthy fats, proteins, carbohydrates, and water. A balanced diet will keep your dog healthy.

2. Play Time and Exercise

If you restrict your dog to its kennel or cage and don’t allow it to play, jump, run or perform any other activity, it will likely develop behavioural issues. Your dog won’t get a chance to meet new people and interact with other canines. So, it won’t know how to react when it sees new people or interacts with other dogs. Therefore, it is essential to incorporate play time and exercise in your dog’s schedule. Take your dog out to a park every now and then and play with it on the weekends.

3. Check-Up

We mostly don’t see a physician unless we are sick. This line of thinking doesn’t apply on dogs. Routine laboratory and physical examination are essential for a dog and should not be neglected. You should take your dog to a vet once every year to track its growth and development. The vet will examine your dog to ensure that there aren’t any issues that can impact its health in the future.

4. Pay Attention to Oral Health

Your dog obviously cannot brush its teeth, so you are responsible for its dental health. If you don’t care for your dog’s oral health, gum diseases may develop. Gum diseases can create more serious health problems like heart valve issues. You should brush your dog’s teeth twice a day and floss the teeth once every two days. Ask your veterinarian for more information on how you can care for your canine’s oral health.

5. Don’t Leave Your Dog Alone

If you have to leave for a vacation or a business trip, you won’t be able to take your dog with you. But, that doesn’t mean you should leave your canine unattended at home. If you have to leave your dog at home, then hire a professional pet sitter to take care of your pet while you are away. A pet sitter is experienced and trained for attending to all the essential needs of dogs. They will play with your canine, feed it and watch over it to keep it safe from harm while you are away.
